The Copan National Park next to Copan Ruinas is Western Honduras, is located in a valley dotted with arqueological complexes covering a vast area of km2 (2,026.25 square miles) is known as Copan , an impressive park that contains some of the most elaborate and beautiful stalae carved by the ancient Maya. Copan is also famous for being the site with longest hieroglyphic text discovered thus far in the Maya World. Excavation and restoration in Copan are product of the continued effort under the supervision of the Proyecto Arqueologico Copan (PAC), the Honduras Institute of Anthropology and History (IHAH), Pennsylvania State University and various other cooperation projects within PAC, which keep unveiling more of Copan 's secrets. Arqueologists have excavated tunnels within the largest structures to expose earlier expose buildings such as the famous Rasolila, a reproduction of which lays at the center of Copan 's impressive Sculpture Museum .
