At Copan there are 3 ballcourts. Ballcourt A is located in the Main Plaza, just north of the Hieroglyphic Stairway; this ballcourt is the second largest in Central America. This ballcourt consists of 3 distinct construction stages, all of which have macaw head stone markers. The first stage of construction, called ballcourt A-I, was built in the fourth century AD and was remodeled twice, changing slightly in size and orientation. This Ball Court was commissioned by Waxaklajuun Ub'aah K'awiil.

Ballcourt B is located in Las Sepulturas Complex. It is the only known ballcourt located in a residential complex in the Maya World. Instead of a ceremonial complex. It is believed that this was a practice court, used by the upper echelons of Copan's society, in preparation for the ceremonial games held at the Acropolis.
