From Copan to Las Sepulturas there is evidence of a causeway or Sacbe (literally white road, as they were covered in stucco) that linked the ceremonial center to the most important living quarters in the city. In 1999 excavations uncovered three phases of paving where the sacbe grants access to the site core and Plaza B, associated with this causeway was a large cache of ceramic vessels of the Sepulturas Variety that was in use at the late IX and early X centuries. This suggests that the causeway was still in use after the decline of the dynastic political structure at Copan.
